Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities determined he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The former head of state was convicted of orchestrating a armed takeover in the ninth month and given more than a 27-year term in jail, but he continued under home detention pending legal challenges.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after fresh information were revealed.

This encompassed trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a call for a supporters' gathering that could "allow for a potential flight.

Judicial Records Show Escape Risks

In a paperwork permitting the arrest, Justice Moraes said intelligence from the unit overseeing the former president's confinement suggested the former leader's plan to remove the electronic ankle bracelet to secure accomplishment in his getaway".

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the disorder caused by the protest called by his offspring.

His son, his son Flávio, who holds office as a senator, called for a meeting of his supporters near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday night.

His son wrote on online platforms on the previous day: Will you battle for your homeland, or watch it all from your mobile device there on your couch? I call on you to struggle with us."

He said the gathering would be so followers could seek divine intervention for his physical condition and for the restoration of democratic rule in our nation."

Diplomatic Refuge Fears

Part of the judge's ruling was the possibility of his "relocation to embassies near the residence, considering that the probes revealed a record of arranging to seek refuge through a embassy office", a declaration said.

The judicial paperwork highlights that the United States embassy in the capital, the capital city, is located around 8 miles from his dwelling.

International Reactions

The former president's legal troubles have provoked anger from fellow conservative nationalist US President Trump, prompting him to impose a fifty percent tax on goods coming from Brazil.

He is being detained in a federal law enforcement building in Brazil's capital city and will undergo a imprisonment assessment on the next day.

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on the previous day that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Top Court to permit him to complete his entire prison term under house arrest, with tracking devices.

They also petitioned that he be authorized to leave his home for medical treatment, saying he needed ongoing care for lung conditions and other ailments.

Details of Guilty Verdict

The former president was found guilty of leading a conspiracy aimed at maintaining his control after he failed to win the 2022 election to his political opponent, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

High Court judges said that he knew of a plan which involved plans to assassinate Lula and his vice-presidential running mate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to imprison and murder the presiding judge - the top judicial official who has been presiding over his judicial proceedings.

The scheme was stopped because it didn't receive the support of the armed forces officials. His successor was took office without problem on the first day of 2023.

But a following week, on the eighth of January, numerous Bolsonaro supporters stormed and vandalised government buildings in the national capital, Brazil's capital.

The security forces intervened and around 1,500 people were arrested.

The justices found that the protesters had been encouraged by Bolsonaro whose strategy, they said, was for the country's army to step in, reestablish control and bring him back to power.

At the moment, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the 27 years and three months sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also barred from campaigning for office until the year 2060 - eight years after the end of his sentence.

The former president called the court case a "witch hunt and said it was aimed at blocking him running in the 2026 national vote.
